Central Caucasus

Racha 旅行指南

Georgia's quiet mountain region — semi-sweet Khvanchkara wine and empty valleys.

Racha is Georgia's least-visited mountain region — a green valley in the central Caucasus that most foreign travelers skip in favor of Kazbegi or Svaneti. That's exactly why it rewards a visit: empty villages, quiet trekking, and the birthplace of Khvanchkara, Georgia's most famous semi-sweet red wine (allegedly Stalin's favorite). The main town is Ambrolauri, and highlights are spread across the valley — small alpine lakes, an 11th-century UNESCO-nominated cathedral, and mineral-water springs.

Only if you already have Tbilisi, Kazbegi, and Kakheti covered and want a quiet off-the-radar region. For a first Georgia trip, prioritize Svaneti or Kazbegi first.
