Best Time to Visit Kakheti

The birthplace of wine — 8,000 years of qvevri tradition in one valley.

September is Kakheti's magic month — rtveli (grape harvest) is happening at every winery, guests are welcomed into the crush pits, and the weather is 22°C and dry. This is the single best week in the Georgian wine calendar.

Spring and early summer (April–June) are the second-best window: vineyards green up, wildflowers in Vashlovani, and daytime 20–25°C. Winter is quiet and cheap but many small cellars close.

Highlights

  • Late Sep–early Oct: rtveli harvest — book 2 months ahead
  • April–June: wildflowers, 22°C, spring pruning tours
  • July–August: 33°C+, best avoided for outdoor cellar visits
  • Nov–March: quiet, big houses open, small cellars often closed
