Svaneti is Georgia's most remote and most distinctive region — a UNESCO-protected valley in the Upper Caucasus where medieval defensive stone towers still crown almost every village. The main town is Mestia (1,500 m), and 45 km further up the road is Ushguli, at 2,200 m one of the highest continuously inhabited settlements in Europe. The 4-day Mestia-to-Ushguli trek is the country's most popular multi-day hike, and Chalaadi glacier is an easy day hike from Mestia.

常见问题: Svaneti
Is Svaneti worth the trip?
Yes — it's unlike anywhere else in Georgia. If you only have a week in the country and love mountains, Svaneti is the single most rewarding destination.
Is the road to Svaneti dangerous?
The main Zugdidi–Mestia road is fully paved and safe. The onward road from Mestia to Ushguli is rough gravel with drop-offs — take a local 4×4 driver, don't self-drive.
