When is the cheapest time to visit Georgia?
November to early March, excluding New Year (Dec 28 – Jan 8). Flights are 30–50% cheaper, hotels drop to low-season rates, and Tbilisi is atmospheric with cafés and wine bars full. The trade-off: no mountain access above 2,000 m without ski gear.
When is ski season in Georgia?
Mid-December through mid-April. Gudauri (2,200 m) is the main resort — 90 minutes from Tbilisi, wide open pistes, off-piste terrain, and lift tickets at roughly one-third the price of the Alps. Bakuriani and Mestia (Hatsvali/Tetnuldi) are smaller alternatives.
Is Tusheti open in June?
The Abano Pass road to Tusheti (the only access) usually opens in the second half of June and closes in late September / early October depending on snow. Never attempt it outside that window — the road is one of the most dangerous in the world.
When is the grape harvest in Kakheti (Rtveli)?
Mid-September to mid-October. Family wineries in Kakheti invite guests to help pick grapes, stomp them in traditional satsnakheli, and taste new wine straight from qvevri. Book 2–3 weeks in advance — it's the most sought-after experience of the year.
How hot does Georgia get in summer?
Tbilisi and eastern lowlands hit 32–38°C in July and August. The Black Sea coast (Batumi) stays humid but cooler at 28–30°C. Mountains are pleasant — Kazbegi 18–22°C in daytime. Summer is peak tourist season with the highest prices and crowds.
Can I visit Georgia in winter?
Absolutely. Tbilisi rarely drops below -2°C, has full restaurant/wine bar life, sulfur baths are at their best, and Gudauri offers world-class skiing. The one caveat: high-mountain regions (Svaneti, Tusheti, Kazbegi's Juta valley) are limited or closed to non-skiers.
When should I avoid visiting Georgia?
Late November and March are the least appealing — cold, grey, rainy, mountain regions inaccessible without skis, and Tbilisi's charm is dampened by damp weather. Also avoid Orthodox Easter week if you dislike crowds; hotels fill with regional visitors.
