Things to Do in Kazbegi (Stepantsminda)

Kazbegi (officially Stepantsminda) is a 1-day town for most travelers — the Gergeti Trinity Church viewpoint is the star, and everything else radiates from it. Stay 2 nights and you can add a proper hike to Gergeti Glacier or the Truso Valley, both worth the extra day.

The village itself is small: one main street, one square, a museum dedicated to poet Alexander Kazbegi, and a scattering of guesthouses. The magic is what surrounds it — Mount Kazbek (5,047 m) fills the horizon on clear mornings, and the Military Highway from Tbilisi is one of the most scenic drives in the Caucasus.
