Kazbegi (Stepantsminda) Travel Guide

The most photographed mountain scene in Georgia — Gergeti Trinity beneath Mt. Kazbek.

Kazbegi — officially the town of Stepantsminda — is 156 km north of Tbilisi at the end of the Georgian Military Highway, right against the Russian border. It's the base for Georgia's most iconic view: the 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church perched on a ridge with the 5,047-m Mount Kazbek behind it. Beyond the church, the surrounding valleys (Juta, Truso, Sno) offer some of the country's best day hikes, and the town itself has become the main summer trekking hub in Georgia.
